What It's Like to Work With Me
Clients have told me they appreciate that I am hopeful, kind, thoughtful, and able to bring humor into the room when it fits. I am warm and relational, but I can also be active and direct when it is useful (especially in ERP).
In our work, we may connect past experiences to what is happening now, but we won’t usually stay there just to stay there. I’m interested in insight when it helps you understand your patterns, respond differently, and move toward the life you want.
I care about whether I am the right fit for you as a person, not just whether I treat what you’re coming in for. Research suggests one of the most important indicators of benefit in treatment is the relationship between the therapist and the client. I welcome feedback, questions, skepticism, and collaboration. It’s important to me that therapy feels human, useful, and genuinely connected to your life.

You Are Welcome Here
This is an affirming place for everyone. This includes women, LGBTQIA+ people, trans and nonbinary people, people of color, neurodiverse people, immigrants, sex workers, polyamorous/non-monogamous people, chronically ill people, punks, anyone who has learned to brace themselves in therapy, medical settings, or other systems, and anyone who is used to wondering whether they will have to explain or defend core parts of themselves before they can get help. I want therapy to be a place where important parts of you do not have to be hidden or minimized to taken seriously.
I won’t assume that I know you just because I know something about one of your communities. Your identities, relationships, values, body, brain, history, and survival strategies are your own. I respect that no group of people is all the same.

Specialties
I specialize in working with people who feel anxious, stuck, overwhelmed, or trapped in their minds. This includes OCD, panic, phobias, generalized anxiety, perfectionism, self-criticism, PTSD.
You don’t need to arrive with the exact right words for your experience. Some clients come in with a diagnosis; others are still making sense of what has been happening. I go into my specialties in more depth on my specialties page.

Why Evidence Based Treatment
Some challenges respond best to specific kinds of help. OCD, panic, phobias, and PTSD often benefit from targeted, active treatment. Using treatments that are supported by research allows us choose our approach intentionally. We can collaboratively choose what has been shown to help with what you’re struggling with while also making sure what we do fits for you: your history, your values, your culture, your nervous system, your preferences. I don’t want therapy to feel mysterious, I will explain what and why we are doing things.

Credentials
A little boring but still important so you know who you’re working with. I hold an MSW (Master’s in Social Work) from Columbia University. I am an independently licensed Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Oregon. I have worked inpatient, outpatient and in group treatment. I have extensively trained in ACT, mindfulness and exposure therapy under published researchers.

Virtual Therapy
At this time, I offer virtual therapy for clients located in Oregon, with plans to offer in-person sessions in Portland in the future. Research has found that virtual therapy is effective, comparable to in-person care and helps increase access to support.
